Strong quake hits Canada: USGS

A strong 6.2-magnitude earthquake rocked the west coast of Canada on Wednesday, shaking the Queen Charlotte Island region of British Colombia, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake struck at 6:40 am (1440 GMT), officials said, 275 kilometers (171 miles) north-northwest of Port Hardy, British Colombia and 624 kilometers (299 miles) north-northwest of Vancouver, the agency said. "But because it was too far off shore, it was not actually felt," said local broadcaster Global TV.
