Protests in Bihar against Raj Thackeray
PATNA: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Monday burnt effigies of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray in several districts of Bihar and Jharkhand, protesting against his utterances against their chief and Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad, and actor Amitabh Bachchan.
The Patna University student wing of the RJD took out a procession demanding the immediate arrest of Mr. Thackeray..
In Patna and Ranchi, the RJD charged the MNS maverick with hurting the sentiments of people by using foul language against their leader and demeaning the pious festival of Chhath. The All-India Youth Federation also took out a procession and burnt the effigy of Mr. Thackeray.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said mere filing of cases against Mr. Thackeray would not serve any purpose. Strict action should be taken against him. The BJP put the blame on the Congress. Party leader Giriraj Singh said it was a conspiracy of the Congress; otherwise it would have arrested him. He said that any insult to Biharis would not be tolerated.
